The Family

There is always plenty to do within the Sealed Knot and you don’t have to be an expert on the history of the period to enjoy yourself. As our regiment is now over 50 years old, we have several members who have been born into and grown up in the regiment and some families have three generations attending Sealed Knot events. Our members are from all over the country (or should that be world as we have a member in Perth Australia), so we may only get to see each other at these events.

At most of the events we camp together as a regiment. Some members extend their trip to an event by taking in the local area or breaking up the journey getting to and from the event.

Bank Holidays are reserved for the larger Sealed Knot events where there are Battles, Living History, Traders (this is our market where we can buy material and other items that we need for our kit), Music in the Beer Tent and a good way to catch up with friends from other regiments. August Bank Holiday is the biggest as it is usually when our friends from re-enactment societies in the rest of Europe come over to join in the fun. Before the public arrive, there are drills for all arms to make sure that everyone is safe and that new members know the commands and what they are expected to do. Musketeers and those wishing to use a sword in front of the public will need to pass a test to make sure that you use the weapon safely.

The events can vary in size and take place throughout the country and Warning Orders are sent out via email from The Sealed Knot or Regimental communications methods (Mercurius Politicus – our regimental magazine, email, WhatsApp group etc). Events can sometimes only involve one or two people from the regiment e.g. Talks to small groups or the whole regiment trying to support it, these can include fetes or banquets.

If going on the battlefield is not something that appeals to you or you have children who are too young to go on the battlefield, there are still plenty to do, and we would encourage you to dress up. Perhaps join in on Living History (or the Information Tent, if we are one of the lead regiments) or watch the battle, there is also a need for people to help with guard duty, ticketing and parking to make the event run smoothly.

However, it’s not all about the battle, we have regimental gatherings both at the events and in between. These usually take the form of a party, where we get the chance to catch up with everyone and just enjoy each other’s company. Sometimes there are Brigade events which can take the form of inter regiment games, but the brigade usually comes together as one when it comes to “King of the Hill”. King of the Hill is a competition that takes place once a year after the public have left. It is a very noisy event with everyone cheering on their brigade.

Some of our Regiment have been lucky enough to attend events in other countries including Germany’s Wallenstein Festival as invited guests of the Kanoniere Breuner along with Ballard’s Regiment. In the past some of our regiment even had trips to Holland, Ireland, South Virginia as invited guests of the local re-enactment groups.

So if your interested in a truly family event the get in touch we would love to have you join us at an event.
